Manual Control G Scale Switches

The Sunset Valley Railroad brass ground throw attaches to throw bar and allows for easy manual control of any SVRR switch. Our ground throw will work with brass, stainless steel, and nickel silver turnouts and can be used to control any size (#4, #6, #8, #10) switch. Read on for ground throw installation instructions.

  3. Push the ends of the paperclip into the throwbar hole and the ground throw. Make sure the ground throw is fully closed and the switch point rails are firmly against the RH stock rail.
  4. Position the ground throw on the headstock ties (the ties that poke out from the side of the switch), mark the location of the ground throw.
  5. Drill pilot holes for the ground throw with a .073” (#49) drill bit.
  6. Screw the ground throw to the headstock ties with 2-56 x 3/8″ screws.
  7. Check that the ground throw correctly throws the switch.
  8. Note that the travel is altered by the adjustment screw, make sure there is some over travel at each end. The paperclip loop takes up the tension to ensure a positive force.
